"Poetry surrounds us everywhere, but putting it on paper is, alas, not so easy as looking at it." Vincent van Gogh

On my first full day at Orquevaux, I rose early as I typically do, burt on that day was excited to have an opportunity to walk about the village as the sun rose and before anyone else was out and about. I photographed everything, because everything spoke to me. This is just one of the paths that criss cross the tiny village, and it typifies life there. When van Gogh didn't have the money for paints, he drew, often very simple sketches of his surroundings on less than quality paper. This is what I was trying to capture in this photo. I find that simple lines and shapes catch my eye more than anything, and when I can eliminate the distractions such as color or, in this case, modern conveniences, I feel like I've found a simpler place and time. There's comfort in that.
